Curatorial Statement
The Relate exhibition was inspired by the 2025 National Hispanic Heritage Month Theme: Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future. In this group of work, collective heritage is represented through a wide range of stories about family, ancestry, identity, land and spirituality. Each exhibiting artist lends their unique perspective to the show: a deep longing to connect to a lost ancestry; the duty to educate and guide future generations who will tend to sacred lands; an affirmation of strength, resilience and belonging in the face of uncertainty.
In Spanish the word ‘Relate’ literally means to ‘tell a story’ or to ‘narrate.’ The English meaning of the word, ‘to identify with’ or to ‘make or show a connection with’ coupled with the idea of sharing and passing down of stories felt like a fitting name for this collection of work.
Exhibiting Artists
Closing Reception + Celebration
The Relate exhibition closed with a reception and artist market during Gallery Walk on Friday, October 3rd, 2025. The community joined together in celebration with live music by Palonegro Latin Jazz. There were empanadas and baked goods for sale. Exhibiting artists brought small art prints, jewelry and ceramics for sale. It was such a beautiful and lively gathering of art and culture and we can’t wait to celebrate again next year!

Artist Panel + Talks
In addition to the exhibition and reception, we offered two opportunities to hear directly from the artists. On Tuesday evening, September 30th, La Casa Latino Cultural Center hosted a panel discussion with the exhibiting artists and Wednesday evening, October 1st, Alexandra McNichols Torroledo gave a talk on the Mura and Nunak indigenous people at FAR.
