About the Operas
In Un Mariage par Quiproquo, debutante Hélène de Préville is betrothed to the wealthy son of her father’s friend, who she has never seen except in a portrait. When Henri, Albert’s commoner friend, arrives to tell the family that Albert has died, he is mistaken for Albert himself & trapped in a lie, yet begins to fall in love with Hélène.
In Catherine, ou la belle fermière, Catherine turns away from society after being mistreated and abandoned by a past lover and raises her adopted daughter Fanchette on a farm they manage together. Both Catherine and Fanchette are in danger when the men they love force them to choose between following their hearts or social standards. Ultimately, Catherine must decide whether to turn her back on the world as it turns against her or to form a new life from the broken pieces once again.
