Tailored to intermediate & advanced players
Based on the fiddle music of Scotland and beyond, this workshop will explore traditional playing in a group with emphasis on arrangement, the techniques that give fiddling its particular flavor, and how to create the thrilling rhythmic drive of traditional string music.
Concentrating on the close relationship of language & dance to vernacular string playing, Alasdair & Natalie will guide participants through:
— “finding your voice” on your instrument
— ancient & modern string techniques
— ornamentation & bowing
— rhythm & groove
— ensemble playing
— arrangements & medleys
All music will be taught by ear; printed music will be provided to take away.
