Learn about ekphrastic writing among contemporary photography with instructor Rose Zinnia!

About this event:

In this workshop, you'll learn about the art of ekphrastic writing (writing creatively about/with art, photography, and more) with local published author, writer, and MFA student Rose Zinnia. She'll guide you through some examples of ekphrastic poems and stories and then you'll get to try your hand at some with the contemporary photography show Velvet Generation at FAR's Pictura Gallery.

And afterward stay for a poetry reading following the workshop: four local Bloomington writers will share pieces (poetry & fiction) they've written in conversation with photographs in the Velvet Generation show. At this reading, you'll get to see how different art forms collaborate and collide.

About the instructor:

Rose Zinnia is the author of the chapbooks Golden Nothing Forever (Nonbinary), Abracadabrachrysanthemum, Hands, & River (with Ross Gay). She is the recipient of the 2021 Kraft-Kinsey Award/Residency at the Kinsey Institute. Zir writing has appeared in West Branch, The Tenderness Project, The Ocean State Review, The Academy of American Poets Poem-A-Day, Peach Mag, & elsewhere. They live with their wolfdog, Kiki, in Bloomington, Indiana where ze are an MFA candidate in Creative Writing at Indiana University & a book/graphic designer. She co-edits w the trees, poiesis, & the reading series, syzygy.
