Trickery. Deceit. Magic. In F for Fake, a free-wheeling, spirited documentary by Orson Welles, the legendary filmmaker (and self-described charlatan) gleefully reengages with the central preoccupation of his career: the tenuous lines between illusion and truth, art and lies. Beginning with portraits of the world- renowned art forger Elmyr de Hory and his equally devious biographer, Clifford Irving, Welles embarks on a dizzying journey that simultaneously exposes and revels in fakery and fakers of all stripes—not the least of whom is Welles himself. Charming and inventive, F for Fake is an inspired prank and a clever examination of the essential duplicity of cinema.
About the Exhibit
On display at Pictura Gallery this summer is a collection of magic-themed darkroom prints by photographer, Carol Golemboski. She conjures the golden age of magic, with visual tricks and illusions folded into the mystique of the analog printing process.
The exhibition will be free, open and available to the public until August 27th during normal hours (Tuesday-Saturday from 11am-5pm) or by appointment.
*Masks are strongly encouraged during the opening and the film screening. Seating is distanced and therefore, limited.
