Hosted by the Documentary Center for Research and Practice, the InLight Human Rights Documentary Film Festival is hosting “Local Realities and Beyond,” a curated program of eight feature documentaries that expose how seemingly mundane structures/dynamics shape the stakes of human rights across continents through both power and resistance. Dealing with themes like colonialism, climate change, and class disparity, these films show day-to-day exploitation and extraction in schools, cities, courts, farms, homes, and even the deep sea. With consistent and instant access to information, power often impacts our daily lives in easily recognizable ways; however, this curation of films emphasizes abuses of power that may not be immediately detectable, and how humans respond.
