About the photographer:

Emilia Martin
is a Polish artist and photographer based in The Hague (NL) whose artistic practice is informed by growing up as the first generation of newly democratic nation, witnessing its process of formulating its narratives and iterations of its pasts.

About the Exhibition On View:

Before Western science accepted the existence of meteorites, many cultures formed their own beliefs about them. Encounters with the celestial rocks have long inspired fear and reverence. Photographer Emilia Martin is fascinated by the stones, but also by the people who study and adore them. With whimsy and extensive research, Martin presents a series of photographs that playfully investigate the old stories and the collective memory surrounding meteorites.“I saw a tree bearing stones in the place of apples and pears” by Emilia Martin will be on view at Pictura gallery from November 7 - January 30. Join us for an Artist Talk at the Opening Reception FRI 11/7 6pm.
