About Arpilleras:

Arpilleras are colorful, three-dimensional textile artworks made with appliqué and embroidery on a burlap backing, named after the Spanish word for burlap. They originated in Chile as a form of protest for women to share stories of political unrest and oppression during the Pinochet dictatorship. They are also often used to tell stories of daily life, work, family and holidays.
