Joe Johnson
Fine art photographers are prodded/encouraged to shape their work into tightly resolved, series-based projects, perhaps rightly so. But I’m a believer that we should still allow ourselves to geek out over the individual image.
Joe Johnson has made several phenomenal projects, and each one of them is thorough and fascinating, rich with layers, and smartly done. Take a look over here on his portfolio site, and you get an inside view to casinos, megachurches, rooftops, newsrooms, and the Midwest under heaps of snow.
And then, there are these photographs, under the heading “Other Pictures.” They don’t sum up neatly, and I am glad he still offers them for consideration. The images in this group do play well together, but each picture is its own strange thing, a suburban portal to a different dimension or a moment of inversion. For today, here are a few of these “Other Pictures,” without further comment.
