The Space Between 1

In a photographic reverie by David Comora, we’re out of the city, but we’re not in the wild. We’re in-between, in the cultivated space where human life and wildlife can sometimes be together. A whitetail, who may reside very near, is mid-stride in the middle of the frame. Her legs close together for a split second, and her body forms a dancing triangle. The tree above her tips down on the right and on the left, stretching its limbs to cover her like an umbrella. In a suspended breath, the creature and tree form one congruous shape. I feel like I am standing beside the photographer, hushed together as she runs through the field.

In a new image from Comora, the shape resurfaces as a cloud. Its central presence makes it feel strangely creature-like, not as in this cloud looks like an elephant,” but rather this cloud is its own being.” It is benign. I get the distinct feeling that it’s gliding away from us, this colossal stingray in the sun, this holy mountain, temporarily revealed.
