Wet Plate Collodion Workshop with Dale Bernstein
A two-day workshop, learning the process of wet plate collodion photography with leading expert, Dale Bernstein.
Saturday October 5 from 9am-5pm
Sunday October 6 from 9am-3pm
Participants will complete a 2-day workshop, learning the process of wet plate collodion photography with leading expert, Dale Bernstein. Artists will create their own photographs, which will then be exhibited at a pop-up exhibit in the FAR 505 Theater. The pop-up show will coincide with Bloomington's First Friday Gallery Walk on November 1st.
Artists will learn how to blend their creative ideas with a historic photographic medium, combining the glass plates with their contemporary images. In an age of instant-gratification digital media, working hands-on with analog photography is a very physical and tangible way to build an image. The creation of your artworks should prove to be just as dynamic as the finished results.
Historic photographic processes can be fairly complicated to set up, so this is an exciting chance for artists to gain access to and guidance through the collodion process, which dates back to the 1850's.
Typically a $500 class, this workshop has been made available for $95 per participant, with the generous support of the Bloomington Arts Commission. Max of 6 participants. A basic understanding of black and white film photography is encouraged.
