Cyanotypes: A two-day workshop that teaches participants the cyanotype process with instructor, Ben Rains. The process was invented by Sir John Herschel in 1842, and is one of the oldest and simplest historical photographic printing processes. The workshop attendees will learn how to make their own cyanotype printing paper, and how to print cyanotype photograms and photographs. All workshop materials will be provided along with notes and a resource list so participants can continue to create prints on their own.

Day 1 (1pm - 4pm): Introduction, Printing Photograms with Premade Paper, Mixing Chemistry, Coating Paper

Day 2 (1pm - 4pm): Printing Photographs, Advanced Printing Techniques, Print Toning

Notes: Participants should wear clothing they’re not concerned about getting a little messy. If the cyanotype coating chemistry gets on fabric, it will turn blue when exposed to sunlight. 2-day workshop meets from 1 - 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
